Glass Heart (Gurasu Haato) Filming Locations: Where Netflix’s Musical Drama Was Shot

-

Glass Heart (Japanese title: Gurasu Haato), is an upcoming musical drama show that combines music, emotion, and ambition into an interesting story. Scheduled to premiere on Netflix on July 31, 2025, the series is co-directed by Kakimoto Kensaku and Goto Kotaro, and co-written by Tomoko Akutsu and Okada Mari.

Based on Wakagi Mio’s long-running light novel series (published from 1993 to 2011), this marks the first live-action adaptation of Glass Heart, introducing a band and heartfelt story to international audiences.

At the center of the story is Akane Saijo (played by Yu Miyazaki), a passionate but struggling drummer who is unexpectedly invited by the reclusive musical genius Naoki Fujitani (Takeru Satoh) to join his new band, TENBLANK. The band quickly becomes famous thanks to their electrifying performances and original songs. Sho Takaoka (Keita Machida) plays guitar and Kazushi Sakamoto (Jun Shison) plays keyboards. But as their fame grows, personal problems and long-kept secrets come to light, especially about Fujitani.

Supporting cast members include Erika Karata as manager Miyako Kai, Pistol Takehara as Genji Kamiyama, Akari Takaishi as singer Yukino Sakurai, and You as Momoko Saijo, Akane’s mother.

Now let’s dive into what fans are eager to know — where was Glass Heart filmed?

WHERE WAS GLASS HEART FILMED?

The movie Glass Heart was filmed from early May 2024 to mid-September 2024. Robot Communications, a well-known Japanese company that has worked on a number of high-end TV and movie projects, led the production. The show is on a huge scale that has never been seen before in Japanese TV dramas, especially since it is about music.

The show was shot entirely in Japan—using a variety of beautiful landscapes, cities, and music venues to show TENBLANK’s journey.

KEY FILMING LOCATIONS IN JAPAN

Hitachi Seaside Park, Ibaraki Prefecture

Glass Heart’ Set in Hitachi Seaside

Hitachi Seaside Park in Ajigauracho, Hitachinaka, Ibaraki 311-1201 is a place that stands out. People love this place because of its wide flower fields and beautiful scenery all year round. In a behind-the-scenes photo that was shared on social media, a huge Ferris wheel can be seen in the background, proving that this beautiful place was used for filming. The park’s open space and natural beauty probably made it the perfect setting for scenes of self-reflection, personal growth, or maybe just getting to know each other better outside of the spotlight.

Since Glass Heart is a musical drama, much of the filming also took place in performance venues and recording studios, although specific indoor locations have not been disclosed. It’s believed that urban scenes were shot in busy Japanese cities to simulate TENBLANK’s concerts and public appearances. The show tried to capture the lively energy of a real rock band by using cityscapes, concert halls, and other famous Japanese cities as filming locations.

Behind-the-scenes information says that more than 5,000 extras were used in a big live concert scene that was filmed with 12 cameras, which is an impressive feat even by international standards. Official venue names have not been released, but it is clear that big outdoor stages and maybe even famous concert halls in Tokyo and Osaka were used.

IS TENBLANK A REAL BAND?

TENBLANK, the band at the center of Glass Heart, is a fictional creation, but with a very real musical impact. Fronted by Takeru Satoh, who performs as vocalist Naoki Fujitani, the band’s music is written by Yojiro Noda, the acclaimed frontman of the Japanese rock band RADWIMPS. Noda not only contributed lyrics but worked closely with the cast to ensure the songs resonated with the show’s themes.

The band’s debut track, “Crystalline Echo”, sung by Satoh, has already been teased online. The full debut album, also titled Glass Heart, will be released on August 1, 2025, one day after the Netflix premiere (via tonboriday.com). The album includes ten original songs, such as “Melody and Crystal”, and will be available in both a standard and a limited-edition format. Fans can already listen to a short demo on TikTok and Instagram.

So while TENBLANK is not a real band in the traditional sense, their music is genuine and commercially released — blurring the line between fiction and reality.
