Korean action-thriller TRIGGER (Korean title: Teurigeo) is one of the most anticipated Netflix series of 2025. Directed and written by Kwon Oh Seung, the show is set to premiere worldwide on July 25 on Netflix.
The series centers around a disturbing shift in Korean society when unidentified illegal firearms begin to circulate. Set in a country where guns are virtually nonexistent, this premise creates a high-stakes environment filled with fear and unpredictability. The story follows Lee Do, played by Kim Nam-gil, a former sniper turned police officer who dives into a series of shooting incidents to uncover the origin of the weapons. Moon Baek, played by Kim Young Kwang, is a mysterious friend who is helping with the investigation. Park Hoon, Kil Hae Yeon, and Kim Won Hae are also in the cast, who give the intense story more depth.
IS TRIGGER BASED ON A TRUE STORY?
Director Kwon Oh Seung emphasized that Trigger explores how firearms, even as fictional elements, can dramatically impact society, individuals, and justice systems. The goal was to visualize a scenario where Korean streets become unpredictable due to a sudden wave of gun violence—a topic that hits hard in the nation known for its near-total gun ban.
WHERE WAS TRIGGER FILMED?
The movie Trigger was shot from October 26, 2023, to July 24, 2024. The show was filmed in many places in South Korea—but mostly in Seoul and Dongtan‘s cities and public spaces.
Seoul, South Korea
Seoul, South Korea’s capital, is where a lot of the action in Trigger takes place. Some important places are:
Han River (Hangang)
The Han River is one of Seoul’s most famous natural landmarks, and it plays a big part in the visual story of Trigger. The Hangang Bridge, a famous bridge that links the Yongsan and Dongjak districts—seems to be in several scenes. It goes over Nodeulseom Island, which is man-made and in the middle of the river.
Dongdaemun Station
Dongdaemun, a bustling shopping and cultural district in central Seoul, also served as a backdrop. A lot of scenes were shot near the Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station, which is famous for its futuristic design and constant stream of commuters.
Dongtan, South Korea
Dongtan, a city in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea that is growing quickly— is one of the confirmed places where the movie was filmed. Some important action scenes were filmed in Dongtan Yeoul Park—which is a specific place of interest.
One fan posted on social media about unexpectedly witnessing actor Kim Nam-gil on set near Dongtan Yeoul Park. According to the fan’s post, they were at a nearby Starbucks when they noticed a film crew preparing a shoot. People in the area were amazed when they saw Kim Nam-gil in full costume. People in Dongtan thought the filming was quiet and private, which made the scene even more exciting.
Fans went crazy over this sighting, which proved that Dongtan is a famous place that is used for both high-action scenes and maybe even more personal, down-to-earth parts of the story.
