Winthrop Horror Movie Begins Filming In Vancouver

-

TV and film fans can expect a chilling new horror story to arrive soon as WINTHROP, a feature film based on the cult-favorite podcast Knifepoint Horror, has officially started filming in Vancouver, British Columbia. Filming began on July 1, 2025, and is scheduled to wrap by July 30, 2025.

The film stars Carla Gugino, known for her roles in The Fall of the House of Usher and The Haunting of Hill House, and Lou Taylor Pucci, recognized for his performance in the thriller series You. Directed by Daniel Stamm, who previously directed The Last Exorcism, Winthrop is expected to bring that same eerie tone and quiet intensity that fans of atmospheric horror love.

Winthrop is an adaptation of an episode titled The Lockbox from the popular horror podcast Knifepoint Horror, which was created and narrated by Soren Narnia. Known for its minimalist and dread-filled storytelling, Knifepoint Horror has earned a loyal following by relying on simple narration and vivid psychological suspense. It is now being turned into a full-length movie using the same creepy style.

In the story, Carla Gugino plays a woman who has to put everything at risk to protect her strange and troubled cousin Winthrop, played by Lou Taylor Pucci. Winthrop is the target of a strong supernatural being, and as the danger grows—more trauma and dark family secrets come to the surface.

In a statement about the film, producer Peak shared what makes Winthrop stand out: Winthrop captures the eerie dread that makes Knifepoint Horror such a success. Carla Gugino is a perfect fit for the film, bringing a rare intensity and subtlety that aligns perfectly with the silent horror of Winthrop. Beneath the supernatural tension, the film explores how generational trauma festers and twists over time. It’s horror with weight, and it stays with you.”

With its psychological focus and disturbing undertones, Winthrop looks to be more than just a ghost story. It tries to be a multi-layered experience that deals with deep emotional themes while still giving people the thrills and scares they expect from a horror movie.

Vancouver will keep making things until the end of July 2025. While there isn’t an official release date yet, horror fans and podcast listeners can’t wait to see how this quiet story of fear, family and trauma plays out on the big screen.
