The Unholy Trinity is a 2024 American Western action film, written by Lee Zachariah and directed by Richard Gray. The film premiered on June 13, 2025, and features a star-studded cast including Pierce Brosnan, Samuel L. Jackson, Brandon Lessard, Veronica Ferres, Gianni Capaldi, Q’orianka Kilcher, and Tim Daly.
The story takes place in the rough and dangerous Montana of the 1870s, and it starts with Isaac Broadway (played by Tim Daly) just before he is put to death. He gives his estranged son Henry (Brandon Lessard) one last job: to find and kill the person who falsely accused him.
Henry’s journey takes him to the small, remote town of Trinity, where he meets two strong men: the honest new sheriff Gabriel Dove (Pierce Brosnan) and the mysterious St. Christopher (Samuel L. Jackson). The movie has beautiful cinematography and real Western settings that bring revenge, buried secrets, and hidden treasures to life.
WHERE WAS THE UNHOLY TRINITY FILMED?
In October 2023, most of the filming for The Unholy Trinity took place in Montana. Even though there was a SAG-AFTRA strike going on at the time, the filmmakers were still able to keep working because of an Interim Agreement approved by SAG.
Montana’s rough beauty, real western settings, and historical backdrops made it easy to show how people lived in the 1800s. Director Richard Gray, who lives in Livingston, said, “Paradise Valley, Montana, is a spectacular location and the ideal backdrop for this special story.”

YELLOWSTONE FILM RANCH – PARADISE VALLEY, MONTANA
A big part of the movie was shot at the Yellowstone Film Ranch, which is in Paradise Valley near Emigrant. This place was turned into the made-up town of Trinity in the 1870s. The ranch was built so that Western movies could be shown there. It has a full-scale Western town set with dusty streets, saloons, and wooden storefronts that look like they belong in that time.
The ranch has been the setting for many movies and TV shows, including Murder at Yellowstone City. Brandon Lessard, who also starred in that project, returns to familiar terrain in The Unholy Trinity. The on-set team included many Park County locals, making this a true Montana production.
OLD MONTANA TERRITORIAL & STATE PRISON – DEER LODGE, MONTANA
Location Address: 1106 Main Street, Deer Lodge, MT
A lot of important scenes, including the most important part of the execution, were filmed at the Old Montana Territorial Prison. The building here was made in the 1870s, so it was a good match for the time period of the movie. The worn-down stone walls and narrow hallways at the location made the scenes showing Isaac Broadway’s last moments feel more real.
LIVINGSTON, MONTANA – BEHIND THE SCENES SPOTTINGS
Though not a filming site, Livingston played an important role behind the scenes. Cast members including Pierce Brosnan and Samuel L. Jackson were seen dining at local establishments during filming. Jackson reportedly visited Neptune’s Taphouse & Eatery on Main Street, while Brosnan was spotted at Fiesta En Jalisco.
Livingston locals were also part of the crew, with many Park County residents filling roles from set medics to catering. Notably, Daniel Kosel served as a stand-in for Samuel L. Jackson, and Melissa O’Hair managed food services.
