The second season of The Pitt, the popular medical drama on Max, is now officially being made. Now that filming has begun on the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank, California—the show is getting ready to come back in January 2026. Most of the scenes that take place inside are filmed at the studio, but real places in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, will still be used for exterior shots to keep the show true to its setting.
Originally renewed in February 2025—just one month after it premiered—The Pitt became a standout in the genre thanks to its raw, realistic portrayal of the modern-day American healthcare system. Fronted by ER alum Noah Wyle, the series focuses on the demanding lives of doctors and nurses working at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital.
The format remains the same for Season 2, with each episode covering one hour of a 15-hour shift, offering a tense, moment-by-moment look at life in a trauma unit. Cast members Tracey Ifeachor, Patrick Ball, Katherine LaNasa, Supriya Ganesh, Fiona Dourif, Taylor Dearden, Isa Briones, Gerran Howell and Shabana Azeez are all back to play Wyle.
Season 2 also adds four new characters to the hospital floor, who bring new ideas and energy. Irene Choi (The Good Doctor) steps into the role of Joy, a third-year medical student with a sharp edge and deep knowledge—particularly when it comes to the darker sides of medicine. Laëtitia Hollard will portray Emma, a newly graduated nurse stepping into the fast-paced environment for the first time. Lucas Iverson plays James, a seasoned fourth-year medical student—while Charles Baker (Breaking Bad) takes on the challenging role of a neglected and unhoused patient who brings new urgency to the ER.
Behind the scenes, creator R. Scott Gemmill continues to lead the creative team. Noah Wyle also remains an executive producer, joined by John Wells and Erin Jontow of John Wells Productions, Michael Hissrich, and Simran Baidwan. The series is produced by Warner Bros. Television.
Following its strong debut, The Pitt gained recognition for its sharp writing, strong performances, and commitment to portraying real-world healthcare challenges. With production now underway, anticipation is building for what promises to be another compelling season.
WHAT HAPPENED IN THE PITT SEASON 1?
The first season of THE PITT took place in real time during a 15-hour ER shift at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital. Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch, played by Noah Wyle, is in charge of a hardworking group of doctors who have to deal with births, overdoses, deglovings, assaults, and even a deadly mass shooting all in the same day.
Each of the 15 episodes was a single hour during this crazy shift, making for a raw and intense story. Dr. Cassie McKay (Fiona Dourif) was nearly arrested for disabling her ankle monitor but was allowed to stay after saving a police officer’s life. Dr. Langdon (Patrick Ball), previously dismissed for stealing drugs, returned to help during the crisis but now faces the threat of losing his license unless he completes a five-year rehab program. Dana (Katherine LaNasa), the charge nurse, suffered a physical assault and appeared ready to walk away from her career.
Other storylines included a boy nearly dying from measles due to his parents’ refusal of a spinal tap—until Robby used unconventional methods to change their minds and save the child. Meanwhile, Robby himself suffered emotionally after failing to save Leah, the girlfriend of Jake (Taj Speights), someone Robby cared deeply about. Jake’s angry rejection devastated him.
By the end, Dr. Robby and his team—Samira (Supriya Ganesh), Santos (Isa Briones), Abbot (Shawn Hatosy), and others—gathered in a park to decompress. Despite personal losses and emotional tolls, they shared a quiet toast to survival. As Robby walks home, he reminds us that in this line of work, tomorrow is always another battle. Season 1 ended with uncertainty, resilience, and a team forever changed by one impossible shift.
