The Home is a scary psychological horror movie that will come out on July 25, 2025. It was directed by James DeMonaco and co-written with Adam Cantor. Max is played by Pete Davidson. He is a deeply troubled man who gets a job at a retirement home and finds that the residents and staff there are hiding scary things. He goes into the mysterious and forbidden fourth floor and starts to find disturbing connections to his time as a foster child.
Produced by Miramax, The Home blends psychological horror with atmospheric storytelling. But it’s not just the performances and direction that bring this story to life—it’s the eerie, institutional filming locations spread across New Jersey that give the film its haunting realism.
WHERE WAS THE HOME FILMED?
The main filming for The Home took place in several places in New Jersey between late January and early April 2022. This state has a long history of being the setting for classic horror movies. To get the creepy feel of the movie, the crews used real institutions, quiet suburban streets, and facilities that looked like they were haunted.
SAINT FRANCIS RESIDENTIAL COMMUNITY – DENVILLE, NEW JERSEY

The Saint Francis Residential Community in Denville, New Jersey, served as the primary filming location for THE HOME (2025). This real retirement home, which shut down in 2019, was the perfect creepy setting for the scary story in the movie. Its stark brick walls, tall building, and long, dark hallways gave it an authentic institutional feel that was important to the psychological horror tone of the movie.
In the movie, the building is the retirement home where Max, played by Pete Davidson, starts working and slowly finds out disturbing secrets. This is where the filming ended in April 2022. The real layout and interiors of the facility were used to make the story seem more real.
ELIZABETH, NEW JERSEY
Key scenes—particularly exterior shots and hallway sequences—were shot in Elizabeth, a city known for its vintage architecture and institutional buildings. These locations were chosen to help ground the film’s story in a believable, almost claustrophobic, small-town atmosphere.
NUTLEY, NEW JERSEY
‘Nutley’ was a secondary location that was used to set up scenes inside and outside the made-up house. Details from Nutley’s streets and facilities were used to make the world-building more realistic and to connect scenes that take place inside and outside of the main retirement home.
BEHIND THE SCENES: NEW JERSEY AS A HORROR HUB
Director James DeMonaco, known for The Purge franchise, collaborated again with Miramax to bring his unique horror vision to life. Producers Bill Block and Sebastian K. Lemercier joined DeMonaco and Cantor in creating the film.
New Jersey’s reputation for horror filming is well-established. Films like The Amityville Horror (1979) and Friday the 13th (1980) were shot in Toms River, Blairstown, and Hope Township. The Pine Barrens even hosted the 2002 cult thriller 13th Child. More recently, Naomi Watts’ Goodnight Mommy was filmed entirely in Bedminster, NJ.
New Jersey officials praised The Home’s production for adding to the state’s growing appeal as a filming destination. Governor Phil Murphy highlighted the state’s rising popularity among filmmakers, saying, “The steady stream of productions coming to New Jersey continues… we are delighted to welcome Miramax back.”
Tahesha Way, the Acting Secretary of State, added, “New Jersey is attracting projects of every size and genre, featuring some of the most popular and accomplished actors in the world.”
