The Emmy-winning show THE BEAR is back for a fourth season on FX. The first 10 episodes will air on June 25, 2025. Carmy Berzatto, played by Jeremy Allen White, is a talented but troubled chef who goes back to Chicago to turn his late brother’s sandwich shop into a top-notch restaurant. Alongside him, familiar faces return: Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Richie, Ayo Edebiri as Sydney, Lionel Boyce as Marcus, Liza Colón-Zayas as Tina, Abby Elliott as Natalie, and Matty Matheson as Neil Fak.
Season 4 picks up after the dramatic review from The Chicago Tribune, which may determine the fate of the restaurant, The Bear. While fans eagerly await the outcome of that storyline, the city of Chicago, Illinois, once again becomes a character in itself, with its vibrant streets, neighborhood eateries, and local institutions making up the show’s deeply immersive backdrop.
WHEN AND WHERE WAS THE BEAR SEASON 4 FILMED?
Filming for Season 4 of THE BEAR began in early February 2024, simultaneously with Season 3 production, according to FX chairman John Landgraf. Though additional scenes were scheduled for 2025, most of the season had already been completed by mid-2024. In an interview with Esquire UK, Jeremy Allen White confirmed the extended filming period, stating that they were shooting back-to-back. Keeping the show’s roots strong, the filming took place almost entirely in and around Chicago, capturing the city’s culinary heart and cultural pulse.
MAIN FILMING LOCATION: CHICAGO, ILLINOIS
Chicago was once again the main place where Season 4 of The Bear was filmed. Chicago’s lively neighborhoods, which are known for their delicious food and beautiful architecture, were a big part of making the show seem real.
• MR. BEEF (666 North Orleans Street, River North)
The real-life Italian beef stand continues to double for the fictional “The Beef” restaurant. Both exterior and interior scenes were filmed here, maintaining continuity with previous seasons. This location has become an iconic visual in the series.
• FILM STUDIOS IN CHICAGO (2621 West 15th Place)
The huge Cinespace Studios were used to film interior scenes, such as the re-creation of “The Bear’s” kitchen and dining room. It has 36 soundstages and has been the setting for famous shows.
OTHER CHICAGO LOCATIONS USED IN SEASON 4
• Music Box Theatre (3733 North Southport Avenue): Used for character-driven scenes and establishing visuals.
Wicker Park Laundromat (Chicago’s West Side): A casual backdrop for neighborhood-focused sequences.
• 1739 South Wabash Avenue (South Loop Basketball Court): Utilized for outdoor scenes reflecting Chicago’s street-level energy.
• North Avenue Beach & Wood Street: Key outdoor sequences were filmed here, adding scenic beauty to the narrative.
• West Rush Street, North Michigan Avenue, West Delaware Place, and West Chestnut Place: Pink flyers were posted in these areas, confirming location shoots.
• Green Door Tavern (678 North Orleans Street): The vintage atmosphere of this tavern was used for several scenes.
• Franklin Room (675 North Franklin Street): Located nearby, this bar and tavern served as another filming location.
• 1056 North Hoyne Street (Hoyne Avenue): A two-story house and the nearby neighborhood were used for residential scenes.
• Lincoln Park: The scenic, historic neighborhood was used for multiple visual backdrops.
UNIVERSITY LOCATIONS
Loyola University Chicago – Water Tower Campus (831 North State Street):
An important addition to this season’s filming locations was Loyola University Chicago’s Water Tower Campus, located in downtown Chicago. The crew used Alpana, a restaurant situated on the ground floor of Loyola’s Quinlan School of Business at 831 North State Street, for filming. Nearby, Arrupe College (1 East Pearson Street) also became a staging area for equipment. Local police helped manage traffic and equipment loading, especially during night shoots, which added to the show’s naturalistic style.
NOTABLE RESTAURANTS AND FOOD LOCATIONS
True to the show’s culinary theme, Season 4 includes visual references to real restaurants and food businesses around Chicago:
• Lao Peng You (2020 West Chicago Avenue, West Town): A Chinese noodle house that fits the show’s real-food ethos.
• Publican Quality Meats (825 West Fulton Market): A butcher shop that has appeared in prior seasons.
• Margie’s Candies (1960 North Western Avenue, Bucktown): A nostalgic ice cream shop that reflects Chicago’s family-owned food legacy.
• Kasama (1001 North Winchester Avenue): The Michelin-starred Filipino restaurant is among the city’s culinary gems seen in the series.
These establishments not only ground the show in realism but also serve as subtle character and plot enhancers.
SUBURBAN FILMING LOCATIONS IN COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS
SKOKIE, ILLINOIS
Just 15 miles north of downtown Chicago, Skokie provided additional suburban backdrops for The Bear. Known for its parks, public spaces, and diverse community, scenes shot here included quiet neighborhood walks and transitional shots. Skokie Northshore Sculpture Park and the Skokie Theater are among its standout landmarks.
EVANSTON, ILLINOIS
Located on the North Shore of Lake Michigan, Evanston is a lively area that blends urban sophistication with suburban calm. The production tapped into areas like Chicago Avenue, Dempster Street, and Central Street for background scenes. Cultural spots such as the Frances Willard House and the Grosse Point Lighthouse may appear in some transitions or character sequences.
GLENVIEW, ILLINOIS
This North Shore suburb added nature-filled scenery to the show’s setting. The Glen, a popular shopping and dining destination, and the nearby forest preserve helped bring a quieter, reflective energy to Season 4. The natural landscapes offer a strong contrast to Chicago’s urban core.
The Bear Season 4 once again balances intense character drama with the city’s raw personality. Its commitment to using real locations adds layers of realism that no soundstage could replicate. For fans, it’s more than just a show about food—it’s a love letter to Chicago.
