Tom Holland is currently in Glasgow shooting scenes for the upcoming Spider-Man film, titled Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The film’s production has brought action-packed energy to the city, and fans are thrilled to catch a glimpse of the Marvel star in costume. The latest instalment is already drawing major attention — and at NetFilming, we’re here to break down everything you need to know.
Glasgow Becomes New York for Spider-Man
Production officially began on Friday, August 1, 2025, and parts of Glasgow city centre have been completely transformed to resemble New York City. Streets like Bothwell Street, StVincent Street, Waterloo Street, and Blythswood Street have been dressed with American-style street signs, yellow taxis, NYPD police cars, and other props to give them a realistic NYC look.
According to NY Post, Tom Holland was spotted filming action sequences in full Spider-Man costume on Sunday (August 3). He also took the time to talk to fans, waving and even speaking to a group of more than 100 people who had come to see him.
Local governments have closed roads and rerouted traffic and they have told residents that there will be temporary problems during filming.
Trivia: Glasgow has frequently served as a stand-in for major U.S. cities in Hollywood productions. The city has previously stood in for New York and Gotham City in big titles like Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, The Flash, and The Batman.

Tom Holland’s Busy Filming Schedule in Scotland
Interestingly, this marks the second project in a row that Tom Holland is filming in Scotland. Just weeks before starting Spider-Man, Holland was shooting scenes for Christopher Nolan’s upcoming movie The Odyssey. That production took place around Inverness and Moray, giving the actor a deeper connection to the Scottish landscape.
Trivia: The Highlands and Moray region was also featured in The Crown and Outlaw King, both of which used the stunning scenery to recreate historical locations.

Real Action, Real Streets
Brand New Day is different from other Spider-Man movies because it uses more practical effects and real-world locations instead of studio sets and green screens. Tom Holland recently said that the people making the movie are “leaning into old-school filmmaking”, using real streets and backgrounds instead of just visual effects.
Explosive stunt scenes, car chases, and even a prop tank have all been spotted on set. The production aims to deliver cinematic realism while keeping the Marvel excitement alive.
What’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day About?
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Spider-Man: Brand New Day picks up after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. We don’t know much about the plot yet—but we do know that it will have more of Peter Parker’s web-slinging adventures, emotional depth and jaw-dropping action. Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is still winning hearts with his mix of humour, heart and heroism. Expect stunning visuals that bring New York’s energy to life against the backdrop of Glasgow’s streets. The movie will come out worldwide on July 31, 2026, and fans are already counting down the days.
Watch for more news from the Glasgow set. And who knows? If you’re close enough, you might see Spider-Man swinging by your house.
