Where Was Revival (2025) Filmed? Inside The New Brunswick Locations

-

“Revival,” the supernatural horror noir television series, brings the eerie, emotional tone of the beloved comic book to life. Based on the Image Comics series by Tim Seeley and Mike Norton, “Revival” is created for television by Aaron B. Koontz and Luke Boyce. In the made-up rural town of Wausau, Wisconsin, the show explores the strange events that happen after “Revival Day,” a day when the dead come back to life as fully functioning people with their memories and personalities still intact. While people in the town try to figure out what happened and what it means, Melanie Scrofano‘s character, Dana Cypress plays the lead role in a scary murder mystery in which even the dead are suspects.

Romy Weltman, David James Elliott and Andy McQueen will be working with Scrofano. The story takes place in Wisconsin, but the whole show was filmed in New Brunswick, Canada, which is a beautiful and diverse province. The locations, which ranged from rural villages to historic towns, helped create the hauntingly beautiful and ominous mood that was needed for a story like “Revival.”

Let’s take a detailed look at the filming locations across New Brunswick that brought the eerie world of “Revival” to life.

WHEN AND WHERE WAS REVIVAL FILMED?

The main filming for “Revival” began in September 2024 and ended on December 7, 2024. The filming was entirely conducted in New Brunswick, Canada, particularly in Kings County, Saint John County, Queens County, and Charlotte County. Despite its Wisconsin setting, New Brunswick provided both the rural charm and urban visuals that aligned perfectly with the fictional town of Wausau.

KINGS COUNTY, NEW BRUNSWICK

Kings County played a major role in shaping the world of “Revival.” The town of Sussex was among the central shooting spots. One of the standout locations here was The Mule Bar and Grill, located at 49 Winter Street. As part of the show, it was turned into “Nella’s,” a local bar that is important to the story. Dan Mazzerole, who owns the bar in real life, even shows up in the show. Several establishing shots were taken in the area around the town, giving viewers a real sense of what it’s like to live there.

Other places within Kings County also hosted the crew, including:

• Hampton – the county’s administrative center, served as a backdrop for a variety of indoor and outdoor scenes.

• Norton, now part of Valley Waters, lent its rural charm to scenes involving local investigations and eerie encounters.

• Grand Bay-Westfield – a picturesque town straddling Kings and Saint John Counties, added variety to the visual landscape.

• Bloomfield – this rural community helped in depicting remote and wooded areas, crucial for several suspenseful moments.

SAINT JOHN COUNTY, NEW BRUNSWICK

Saint John County, and more specifically the city of Saint John, was another important filming hub for “Revival.” With its rich mix of urban and historical architecture, Saint John added depth and contrast to the show’s setting.

The production made use of multiple city locales, transforming them to mirror small-town America. A major reason the city was selected was its versatility. According to executive producer Greg Hemmings—Saint John resembles the look and feel of midwestern American towns—especially the fictional Wausau, Wisconsin. In his words, “We have the rural backdrop, we’ve got the urban center for locations… this place actually works for this fictional happening in Wausau.”

More than 200 full-time and 400 part-time New Brunswick residents contributed to the production, including first-timers. Notably, 9-year-old Flora McInroy was cast as Jordan Borchardt, one of the characters who returns from the dead. Her involvement highlighted the series’ commitment to local talent.

The city’s atmosphere was ideal for both day and night shoots. Scenes in alleyways, older buildings, and industrial areas captured the mood of suspense and mystery that defines “Revival.”

QUEENS COUNTY, NEW BRUNSWICK

Moving deeper inland, the series also shot in Queens County, particularly in the rural parishes of Wickham and Welsford. These locations offered unspoiled natural beauty, including rolling hills, forested backdrops, and quiet backroads. Such settings were ideal for capturing scenes with the undead wandering through fields or intense conversations away from the prying eyes of neighbors.

Queens County is also known for its landmarks such as Welsford Falls and Grand Lake, and while not all may appear on screen, their influence on the show’s scenery can’t be overstated. They contributed to the chilling yet serene environment that defines the tone of the series.

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, NEW BRUNSWICK

Finally, the town of Saint Andrews (also written as St. Andrews) in Charlotte County was used to shoot additional sequences. Known for its charming coastal vibes and well-preserved 18th-century architecture, Saint Andrews offered a contrasting historical tone to some of the more modern parts of the show.

This location helped visually emphasize the age-old mystery behind the “revivals,” subtly connecting past and present. Structures like Ministers Island, Kingsbrae Garden, and St. Andrews Lighthouse brought an air of mystique and elegance to the screen. Whether used in wide shots or background scenery, these places helped give “Revival” a sense of place that was at once unique and haunting.

WHY NEW BRUNSWICK?

The production team chose New Brunswick not only for its scenic beauty but also for its versatility. The province offered cost-effective production options, supportive local government, and a growing local film community. “Revival” served as a sort of “pilot project” for larger productions in the region, with Greg Hemmings noting the opportunity to “bring ourselves forward into a brand new version of what this industry can be.”

Co-executive producer Steve Foster emphasized how local crews, some of whom hadn’t worked on a major production since the 1990s, adapted quickly to the 12- to 14-hour filming days, showing resilience and professionalism.

REVIVAL (2025) OFFICIAL TRAILER

“Revival” may be set in a fictional Wisconsin town, but the series owes much of its immersive atmosphere to the stunning real-life locations in New Brunswick, Canada. From the bustling streets of Saint John to the tranquil pastures of Kings and Queens Counties, each filming site added a layer of depth and authenticity. With its rich blend of rural and urban settings, New Brunswick proved to be the perfect stand-in for middle America.
