Resident Alien Season 4 Filming Locations Revealed

-

If you’re a fan of quirky sci-fi and small-town drama, you’re probably thrilled that Resident Alien Season 4 is back, released on June 6, 2025, at 11 p.m. ET/PT on both USA Network and SYFY. At NetFilming, we’re diving into the filming locations that bring this alien-filled adventure to life. This season, viewers can anticipate Harry Vanderspeigle (Alan Tudyk) navigating a challenging journey that begins in a Grey alien prison on the moon, while a shapeshifting Mantid wreaking havoc in Patience, Colorado. The show’s blend of humor, mystery, and heart captivates us, but could you please share where all this extraterrestrial action is filmed? Let’s break it down.

Where Was Resident Alien Season 4 Filmed?

The fictional town of Patience, Colorado, is the heart of Resident Alien, but the actual filming happens entirely in British Columbia, Canada. No scenes are shot in Colorado. Instead, the production team uses a mix of charming towns, rugged landscapes, and studio sets in British Columbia to create the cozy, quirky vibe of Patience. Here’s a look at the key locations used for Season 4, filmed between December 2024 and March 2025.

Resident Alien Season 4 was filmed in Downtown Ladner, Delta, British Columbia.

1. Downtown Ladner, Delta, British Columbia

One of the filming locations is Ladner Town, which is located in Delta, British Columbia. By setting up signs that read “Patience, Colorado” and storefronts to mimic a small town, the production team transforms First Avenue into Patience’s Main Street. Filming started on December 2, 2024, and continued until early 2025. The cast films scenes set in residences or civic buildings on soundstages located in Delta. Custom-built sets for uniformity and control allow the crew to create realistic interiors for these places, such as the sheriff’s office and the diner.

2. Fort Langley, British Columbia

Another gem is Fort Langley, a historic village that doubles as parts of Patience. You’ve probably seen characters like Max or Harry strolling down a charming main street here. Filming for Fort Langley happened later, ending in March 2025. The village’s old-fashioned charm makes it a great stand-in for the show’s setting and its pretty streets make it feel like a real tiny town.

Resident Alien Season 4 was also filmed Ladysmith, Vancouver Island

3. Ladysmith, Vancouver Island

Ladysmith is a beautiful village on Vancouver Island that is a significant filming location for Patience. The crew took over 1st Avenue from March 17 to March 19, 2025, and decorated it with banners and accessories to make it look like a Colorado town. One of the best parts was a scene where 30 local extras danced with the cast on the street. The production team says that Ladysmith is a great place to film because it used to be a mining town and the people there are friendly. Its natural beauty and small-town feel are ideal examples of what Patience is all about.

Britannia Mine Museum, Britannia Beach

4. Britannia Mine Museum, Britannia Beach

The Britannia Mine Museum near Britannia Beach was the best place to film scenes that needed a rough, industrial setting. On the morning of March 31, 2025, they filmed here. This historic mine site gives the show a unique feel, especially during the sci-fi parts. The museum’s rough environment is different from the comfortable town scenes, which gives Season 4 a wide spectrum of visuals.

5. Minaty Bay, British Columbia

Harry’s iconic lakeside cabin is filmed at Minaty Bay, near Britannia Beach along Highway 99. The exterior scenes were shot on private property on December 9, 2024, and March 31, 2025. While the cabin’s interior is built on a Vancouver soundstage, the exterior is a real structure created specifically for the show. Interestingly, Minaty Bay borders Howe Sound, an ocean inlet, but clever camera work makes it look like a lake. As production designer Todd Brooker shared with SyfyWire, this “cheat” works seamlessly to create the illusion of a serene lakeside retreat.

6. Vancouver Soundstages

Most of the scenes indoors, including the diner, the mayor’s office, or Asta and D’Arcy’s apartment, were filmed on soundstages in Vancouver. These outfits are carefully made to show off Patience’s unique character. The show has a lot of inside locales, so it needs two soundstages to make sure that every element, from the sheriff’s desk to Harry’s messy cottage, feels real. The studio facilities in Vancouver are a key part of the show’s production since they let the crew manipulate the lighting and set design with great accuracy.

Is Harry’s Cabin a Real Place?

Fans often wonder if Harry’s cabin is a real, visitable spot. “Yes” and “no” are both parts of the response. The outside of the cabin is authentic and was made just for Resident Alien at Minaty Bay, which is near Britannia Beach. The crew picked this site because it was beautiful and would be a great place for Harry to get away from it all. The team can manage every detail of the inside, though, because it is recorded on a set in Vancouver. Co-executive producer Amanda Joy explained that finding the right location for the cabin was tough, especially for a dramatic fight scene in the pilot. Building the exterior themselves solved the problem, giving them flexibility and authenticity.

The trick with Minaty Bay is that it’s not actually a lake—it’s Howe Sound, an ocean inlet. On camera, though, it looks just like the serene lake described in the show. This clever filmmaking technique shows how the team maximizes British Columbia’s landscapes to fit the story.

When Did Filming Take Place?

Filming for Season 4 took place over four months, starting on December 2, 2024, and wrapping up on March 31, 2025.

Here’s how it broke down:

  • December to early March: Indoor scenes and studio shoots in Delta.
  • Late March: Outdoor sequences in Ladysmith, Fort Langley, Britannia Beach, and Minaty Bay.

The tight schedule helped the production stay on track for its June 2025 premiere.

Resident Alien Behind The Scenes

Season 4 of Resident Alien brought new creative challenges—and a lot of excitement—behind the camera. With the storyline taking a bold leap to the moon and introducing a shapeshifting alien, the production team had to think bigger than ever. Most of the season was filmed in British Columbia, where sets were carefully crafted to reflect the town of Patience, Colorado, as well as more unusual settings like alien bases and secret laboratories.

Actor Alan Tudyk, who plays Harry, also stepped behind the camera this season to direct the first two episodes. In an interview, Tudyk said, “Directing while playing Harry was a challenge, but it gave me a deeper connection to the story. I could see the characters from both sides, and that made the scenes stronger.” Fellow cast member Elizabeth Bowen praised his directing style, calling it “fun, flexible, and super intuitive.”

The team also had to build new props and visual effects from scratch. According to co-executive producer Amanda Joy, “Every season, we try to raise the bar. The alien tech, the moon sets, the Mantid’s look—none of that existed before. It was all created for this story.”

Behind the scenes, it was clear that Season 4 was a labor of love—filled with detailed set construction, practical effects, and a lot of creativity. The cast and crew came together to deliver a season that pushes both the humor and the science fiction elements even further.
