Set to release on July 25, 2025, Osiris is an upcoming American science fiction action film written and directed by William Kaufman. The movie stars Max Martini, Brianna Hildebrand, LaMonica Garrett, Michael Irby, and Linda Hamilton in a suspense-filled story involving a group of Special Forces commandos abducted by an alien spacecraft. As soon as they get on board, they are pursued by a relentless alien race.
Even though the story takes place in space, the movie was shot much closer to home.
When and Where Was Osiris Filmed?
Principal photography for Osiris ended at the end of 2023, and pre-production was finished at the beginning of 2024. The movie was filmed mostly in the United States, mostly in New Orleans, Louisiana, and Austin, Texas, starting in March 2024.
New Orleans, Louisiana
The heart of Osiris’ filming was in New Orleans, where the production spent a significant amount of time and resources.Several news sources say that the movie spent $6.7 million in Louisiana. The city’s wide range of urban settings and ready availability of skilled local crews made it a great choice for this science fiction action thriller.
Filmmakers have long loved New Orleans as a place to shoot because it has a lot of history, a flexible infrastructure, and good tax breaks for productions. In Osiris, the city doubled for several interior and futuristic settings, including parts of the alien spacecraft, which were built practically rather than created through heavy digital effects.
Director William Kaufman emphasized that the film was shot “as practically as possible”—from creature effects and stunt sequences to full set builds. Much of that was brought to life in specially constructed sets and sound stages around New Orleans.
Austin, Texas
In addition to New Orleans, some parts of Osiris were filmed in Austin, Texas. Known for its vibrant film scene and scenic locations, Austin contributed select outdoor scenes and tactical sequences involving the Special Forces characters. While fewer details are available about what specific parts of the film were captured here, the use of Austin’s terrain helped give Osiris the gritty, grounded tone that the filmmakers aimed for.
A Practical Approach to Sci-Fi
Director William Kaufman described Osiris as a tribute to classic action sci-fi thrillers, emphasizing the production’s use of real sets, practical stunts, and physical alien effects.
“Working with Max Martini for a second time, Linda Hamilton, Brianna Hildebrand, and the legendary creature effects maestro Todd Masters, along with the rest of our exceptional cast and crew, to bring this old-school action sci-fi thriller to life was just incredible,” Kaufman said in a statement.
The creative team avoided heavy reliance on digital effects. Instead, the filmmakers focused on building detailed sets, using practical effects for alien creatures, and choreographing stunts the old-fashioned way.
“We filmed the movie as practically as possible—from the aliens, set builds, and stunts—all to stay true to the movies we love,” Kaufman added.
The film’s distributor, Vertical, also praised this nostalgic approach to the genre.
“William has created a fun and fresh take on the alien thrillers of the eighties and nineties we all love,” said Vertical partner Peter Jarowey. “We’re honored to have the legendary Linda Hamilton be a part of this visually exciting creature feature and know that fans will turn out for this movie.”
With cinematography by Mark Rutledge, production design by Paul Alix, and physical creature effects by Todd Masters, both New Orleans and Austin served as dynamic backdrops that helped bring this grounded yet thrilling sci-fi film to life.
