Where Was Netflix’s Hostage (2025) Filmed? All Filming Locations Revealed

-

Netflix’s upcoming miniseries Hostage is a gripping British political thriller set to premiere on August 21, 2025. The limited series has five episodes and was created and written by Matt Charman. Isabelle Sieb and Amy Neil are in charge of directing them. Julie Delpy and Suranne Jones, who play made-up French President Vivienne Toussaint and British Prime Minister Abigail Dalton, are in charge of the cast.

The series follows a high-stakes summit between France and the UK, which takes a dark turn when the British Prime Minister’s husband is kidnapped and the French President is blackmailed. With their political futures and personal lives on the line, the two leaders must confront a hidden threat that could change the course of both nations.

With its sharp writing, strong performances, and fast-paced tension, Hostage promises to be a must-watch for political drama fans. But beyond its story, one of the most visually striking elements is its carefully chosen filming locations.

When and Where Was Hostage Filmed?

Production for Hostage began in early 2024 under the working title The Choice. This title was used during most of the shoot until February 2025, when Netflix officially rebranded it as Hostage. Filming was over in June 2024. Behind-the-scenes posts on social media by Suranne Jones and director Isabelle Sieb confirmed the end of filming.

Let’s take a closer look at the main locations used to bring the world of Hostage to life.

UK: Filming in London and Across England

The show was filmed mostly in the UK, with a number of scenes taking place in and around London. London’s government buildings, city streets—and official interiors made for a natural setting for scenes with the Prime Minister and other British officials because the show was based on British politics.

Soho, London, was also the site of important scenes during production—such as those involving the editing team and work done after filming. The famous cityscape and film history of the area made it a great place to film.

As key location managers for the UK shoot—Flora Christian and Ryan M. Flynn helped the team find real places that fit the high-stakes world of politics that the show portrayed.

Canary Islands, La Palma

In addition to filming in the UK, major portions of Hostage were shot on La Palma in the Canary Islands, also known as “La Isla Bonita.” This location offered a dramatically different visual style from the urban settings of London and gave the series an international dimension.

La Palma is known for its natural beauty, including volcanic terrain, coastal cliffs, and lush landscapes. Because of these things, it could be used for a variety of scenes, including international summits, secret hideouts, and action-packed scenes that the public and the press wouldn’t see.

Behind the Scenes and Cast Insights

Director Isabelle Sieb regularly shared her experience on set through social media, including heartfelt reflections after wrapping up her block of filming in Soho, London.

In one playful Instagram Story, Jones is seen riding pillion on a “Passenger Bike” with the caption:

Suranne Jones, who plays British Prime Minister Abigail Dalton, also celebrated the wrap on Instagram with behind-the-scenes photos and reflections on the intense shoot. In a statement, she said:

“I’m thrilled to be on Netflix, in something I’m really proud of. It’s been something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. We’d talked about projects previously, but for me, it was about finding the right thing. Hostage was perfect — me and Matt together, backed up by this brilliant, supportive team. I loved it.”

Creator Matt Charman, who previously worked with Suranne Jones, added:

“I’ve been dying to find the right story to tell with Suranne, and I honestly believe what she’s done with this character is going to blow the Netflix audience away. An embattled British PM in the middle of a fight for her country and her family — she’s fierce, ruthless, and you can’t take your eyes off of her.”

These behind-the-scenes perspectives highlight the passion and teamwork behind Hostage — both in front of the camera and off it — capturing just how personal and intense the project was for the people involved.
