Michael B. Jordan Begins Filming The Thomas Crown Affair In England

-

Filming has officially begun on THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR, the new romantic heist thriller led by and starring Michael B. Jordan. The highly anticipated reimagining of the classic tale started principal photography on July 7, 2025, at Elstree Studios in England, UK, with scenes also expected to shoot across various European locations.

This fresh take on The Thomas Crown Affair comes with a twist—Michael B. Jordan is not only stepping into the title role, but also directing the movie and producing it under his Outlier Society banner. Joining him behind the scenes are Elizabeth Raposo and Charles Roven, the latter known for his work on major blockbusters with Atlas Entertainment.

The original version of The Thomas Crown Affair, released in 1968, starred Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway, and revolved around a wealthy man who orchestrates high-stakes robberies for fun. A 1999 remake followed with Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo. In Jordan’s version, the setting has moved to Europe, but the core theme of high-stakes art theft remains.

Jordan plays the role of Thomas Crown—a billionaire with a passion for stolen artwork. Rising star Taylor Russell joins the cast as a private detective who starts trailing Crown, sparking a complicated and romantic game of pursuit.

Reuniting with her Black Panther co-star, Danai Gurira has joined the film and is said to play Crown’s close confidante. The project is also bringing in Kenneth Branagh, an Academy Award-winning actor and filmmaker, and Lily Gladstone, who received an Oscar nomination for her recent work. However, character details for Branagh and Gladstone are still under wraps.

The script has gone through multiple stages, with the final draft written by Drew Pearce, building on earlier versions by Wes Tooke and Justin Britt-Gibson. The screenplay is inspired by the 1968 classic, originally penned by Alan Trustman, who now returns as an executive producer. Other producers include Patrick McCormick and Marc Toberoff.

Amazon MGM is handling distribution and has locked in a March 5, 2027 theatrical release date for the film.

With an ensemble cast, an iconic story, and an updated European backdrop, The Thomas Crown Affair promises to be one of the most stylish and talked-about heist thrillers in the coming years.
