One of the most talked-about MARTY SUPREME filming locations is Lexington Avenue, near 75th Street in New York City. With careful set dressing, the street was turned into a scene from Paris in the 1950s. October Film Cars brought old European cars to the set, like the Jaguar XK120, Citroën Traction Avant, and Allard K2.

The crew used the French bistro at Orsay (1057 Lexington Avenue, Upper East Side) as a main background, which added to the Parisian look. More scenes were filmed in Central Park, with Timothée Chalamet and Gwyneth Paltrow acting in costumes that were true to the time period. To keep things real, extras dressed in 1950s clothes and old-fashioned props were used. The streets and buildings in New York City helped make the setting feel like Europe after the war.

LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK

Long Island served as one of the key stand-in locations for 1950s Paris in MARTY SUPREME. According to Jake Gouverneur, Vice President of Octane Film Cars, the production team shot across “three different places around the city and one on Long Island” to recreate the European vibe essential to the story.

Gouverneur explained, “The cars sell the location,” highlighting how rare vintage automobiles helped transform New York into post-war France. His company provided a carefully curated lineup of iconic vehicles, including Citroën Traction Avants, a Jaguar XK120, and a Citroën H-Type van, all of which contributed to the film’s authentic street scenes. Long Island’s quiet neighborhoods, less affected by modern infrastructure, allowed the crew to stage detailed shots with full control over the environment.

RYE PLAYLAND, WESTCHESTER COUNTY

The production filmed a major scene for MARTY SUPREME at Rye Playland, located in Westchester County, New York. The team used the boardwalk and beachfront to stage a 1950s carnival scene, complete with live camels, donkeys, vintage strollers, and bicycles. Extras in retro clothing populated the area to recreate a realistic family outing atmosphere.

Set designers enhanced existing structures with signage and carnival props to match the film’s mid-century aesthetic. The park’s historic rides, open space, and coastal backdrop made it ideal for the large-scale sequence. Locals were fascinated by the transformation of their familiar boardwalk into a bustling mid-century scene. The beach shoot became one of the most buzzed-about moments during production.

WARWICK, ORANGE COUNTY, NEW YORK

A fully built 1950s gas station set was constructed on a remote road in Warwick, Orange County for MARTY SUPREME. This location was selected to capture the isolated feel of mid-century rural America. With assistance from the OCNY Film Office, the crew found an untouched stretch of land and transformed it using vintage gas pumps, signage, and classic vehicles.

The result was a historically accurate service station set against a scenic, tree-lined backdrop. Warwick’s quiet surroundings ensured fewer modern visual interruptions, making it ideal for extended location shoots. A24 previously filmed The Whale and Sing Sing in the region, continuing its partnership with Orange County.

MARTY SUPREME was also filmed in professional studios in Manhattan. Ping-pong halls, apartments, and hotel rooms from the 1950s were included in the detailed indoor sets that were built. These controlled soundstages made it possible to shoot without stopping, with consistent lighting and accurate set design.

In addition to indoor work, the crew also filmed on-location in Manhattan’s Broadway Theater District, including a section of West 44th or 45th Street, where vintage cars and signage helped transform the area into a mid-century city street. One scene, shot outside a marquee reading “The Longest-Running American Musical,” recreated the hustle of 1950s New York with authentic street details.

ORCHARD STREET, LOWER EAST SIDE

The production of MARTY SUPREME turned Orchard Street between Rivington and Delancey into a busy 1950s business block on October 1, 2024. With mannequins, old-fashioned displays, and awnings that look like they belong from that time, storefronts were given new names with old-fashioned signs like “I. Rosenfeld Dry Goods & Hosiery” and “Moshe Knitwear Co.” Altman Luggage at 135 was transformed into a 1950s clothing store named Adato Bros. The next-door empty storefront (137 Orchard) was made into Norkin Shoes.

One of the standout filming locations for Marty Supreme is 94 Orchard Street in Manhattan’s Lower East Side. The address currently houses the flagship store of Moscot, the iconic New York eyewear brand. For the film, however, the production team transformed the storefront to resemble 94 Rivington Street, the original location of Moscot, which first opened in 1915. During filming, actor Timothée Chalamet was spotted climbing a ladder outside the shop, dressed in period costume, while vintage set dressing and classic cars added to the 1950s ambiance.

The block was built in the 1920s and is on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Its original design made it perfect for making a shopping street from the 1960s. People walking by watched as crews and camera cranes worked around the old buildings. The real charm of the street helped the filmmakers make the setting seem real without using a lot of CGI or studio recreations. Scenes that took place in New York after the war used this section as a vivid background.

TOKYO, JAPAN

In February 2025, MARTY SUPREME filmed important scenes in Tokyo, Japan as part of an international shoot. Tokyo, with its narrow streets, neon signs, and mid-century buildings that have been preserved in some parts, made for a real-life setting for the movies. Real neighborhoods in Tokyo from the 1950s were probably used in the production, which gave the movie a cross-cultural feel. The American sets used in New York were very different from the streets of Japan.

BEHIND THE SCENES: TECHNIQUE, TRAINING & CASTING

MARTY SUPREME was shot on 35mm film by acclaimed cinematographer Darius Khondji, giving the movie a distinct vintage look. Veteran production designer Jack Fisk was responsible for the film’s period-accurate sets. Lead actor Timothée Chalamet trained for months for the film’s ping-pong sequences under the guidance of former professionals Diego Schaaf and Wei Wang.

Director Josh Safdie encouraged Chalamet to perform some of his own stunts. For an altered appearance, Chalamet wore prescription glasses layered over contact lenses, which temporarily affected his vision. The film also includes around 140 non-actors, including French highwire artist Philippe Petit, adding realism to various crowd scenes.
