Kidnapped in a Small Town Filming Locations: Where Was The Lifetime Thriller Movie Shot?

-

Lifetimes KIDNAPPED IN A SMALL TOWN is a thrilling 2024 thriller with a shocking turn of events. The movie, directed by Mike Hoy, is about a mother’s terrifying search for her daughter after she mysteriously vanishes after a breakdown on the side of the road. The movie stars Rebecca Amzallag as Sarah, a devoted mother, and Zoe Sarantakis as Ruby, her daughter. Kathryn Kohut plays Allie, the seemingly helpful stranger who offers a ride—but things take a sinister turn when Ruby vanishes, and Allie insists they’ve never met. The cast also includes Alicia Blasingame, Chelsea Rose Cook, Joesy De Palo, and Holly Anspaugh.

While the story feels grounded in reality, KIDNAPPED IN A SMALL TOWN is not based on a true story. It is an original work of fiction written by Jesse Mittelstadt and Richard Switzer, though it draws loose inspiration from real-world abduction cases. Now, let’s dive into the heart of the production: the filming locations.

WHERE WAS KIDNAPPED IN A SMALL TOWN FILMED?

The entire film KIDNAPPED IN A SMALL TOWN was filmed in Kentucky, a state in the United States famous for its beautiful scenery, charming small towns, and lively cities. In particular, the crew filmed in Spencer County and Louisville, capturing both the energy of cities and the roads in rural areas. In August  2024, filming began and went on through September. The cast and crew posted pictures and videos of the process on social media.

SPENCER COUNTY, KENTUCKY

Spencer County is a quiet and beautiful area in central Kentucky where the movie’s first scenes were filmed. Spencer County—which is known for its rolling fields and country roads, was a great place for the movie’s tense roadside scenes..

The production spent about a week filming in this rural area. Much of the action takes place inside vehicles—something that Spencer’s open roads supported well. The crew used camera rigs and mounted gear on the cars to film from both inside and outside. According to behind-the-scenes photos shared by Alicia Blasingame on Instagram, the camaraderie on set was strong, and the actors bonded during the intense shoot.

Spencer County’s natural isolation fit well with the plot of the movie, in which a broken-down car and a lonely road set off a scary chain of events. The warm weather in September made things hard during filming days, but the crew quickly learned how to deal with it.

LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY

The show moved to Louisville, Kentucky’s biggest city, after it was over in Spencer County. Louisville, which is just under 40 miles from Spencer County, provided contrast with its cityscape and busy streets. In interviews and social media posts—the cast said that Louisville’s weather was hard to predict. Alicia Blasingame wrote in September 2024 that she had been filming in hot weather one day and storms the next.

The Kentucky Derby, museums, and the Louisville Slugger baseball factory are just a few of the cultural landmarks that make Louisville famous. These things didn’t show up in the movie directly, but they added to the visual variety of the city.

Since the movie has a lot of exciting and suspenseful scenes, it’s likely that a lot of them were filmed here. The city setting gave us more visual options and made Sarah feel even more alone as she searches for Ruby in the middle of all the chaos.
