Hostile Takeover (2025) Filming Locations

-

Set for release on August 8, 2025, Hostile Takeover is a high-stakes action thriller directed by Michael Hamilton-Wright, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Burton L. Warner. The film follows Pete, a professional hitman whose loyalty is questioned after attending Workaholics Anonymous meetings. Pete is being chased by a group of cruel killers because they think he betrayed them. He has to do this while navigating the criminal underworld.

Michael Jai White, who is known for his roles in Black Dynamite and The Dark Knight and Aimee Stolte star in this action-packed movie that is making waves not only for its plot and cast but also for its creative way of filming and unique location.

Where Was Hostile Takeover Filmed?

While Hostile Takeover is set in New York City, the entire film was actually shot in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. More specifically, the production was based at the John Hopkins Regina Soundstage, home to one of Canada’s newest and most advanced virtual production environments.

The key highlight of this project is its use of a 320-degree LED Volume Wall, unveiled in March 2024. Developed by Volume Global, the LED wall acts as a fully immersive digital background, allowing filmmakers to replicate any setting—including the bustling streets of New York—without leaving the studio.

Located in the heart of Regina, the John Hopkins Regina Soundstage is now a hub for cutting-edge digital filmmaking. The facility was upgraded to include virtual production capabilities in early 2024, and Hostile Takeover became the first full-scale feature film to utilize the technology there.

With the LED Volume Wall, filmmakers can make sets that look real and changeable without having to do traditional on-location shoots. This means that action scenes, interiors, and cityscapes can all be filmed in a controlled studio and still look real.

A Boost for Saskatchewan’s Film Industry

The filming of Hostile Takeover has brought a lot of attention and money to Saskatchewan’s film industry. The province put more than $3.3 million into the production with help from Creative Saskatchewan. More than 140 new jobs will be created and the project will have an economic impact of nearly $14 million.

Minister Laura Ross of Parks, Culture, and Sport visited the set on May 28, 2024, to stress that the province is committed to film’s growth and new ideas. “We’re proud to be part of this exciting journey and the thriving film industry here in Saskatchewan,” she said.

Behind the Scenes with the Cast and Crew

Along with the lead actors, the movie has stunt direction by Markos Rounthwaite, who has worked on films like The Bourne Ultimatum, Zombieland: Double Tap and Casino Royale. The action scenes in Hostile Takeover were choreographed and recorded using the LED Volume Wall. This made the experience more visually appealing while cutting down on the amount of filming that had to be done on location.
