Die My Love is a 2025 American psychological dark comedy-drama directed by Lynne Ramsay and co-written by Enda Walsh and Alice Birch. The film is adapted from the 2017 novel by Ariana Harwicz, originally set in rural France. This cinematic version shifts the story to rural Montana, where the psychological unraveling of a young mother unfolds in stark and isolated surroundings.
The plot centers on Grace (Jennifer Lawrence) and her husband Jackson (Robert Pattinson), who leave New York City behind to raise their child in Jackson’s rural Montana hometown. But instead of peace, Grace finds herself haunted by loneliness and inner turmoil, causing dangerous rifts in their marriage. The film also stars LaKeith Stanfield as Karl, Sissy Spacek as Pam, Nick Nolte as Harry, and Gabrielle Rose as Jen.
WHEN AND WHERE WAS DIE MY LOVE FILMED?

Filming on Die My Love began on August 19, 2024, and wrapped on October 16, 2024. The story takes place in Montana, but most of the movie was shot in southern Alberta, Canada, which was chosen because it looks a lot like the American West.
The production was helmed by celebrated cinematographer Seamus McGarvey, who previously collaborated with Ramsay on We Need to Talk About Kevin. The film was shot in 35mm using a 1.33:1 Academy ratio, with visual influences drawn from Roman Polanski’s Repulsion and Rosemary’s Baby. McGarvey confirmed via Instagram that he reunited with Ramsay for this haunting project.
Let’s explore the key Die My Love filming locations.
CALGARY, ALBERTA
The majority of the film was shot in and around Calgary, Alberta’s largest city. Despite being a bustling urban center, Calgary also offers access to open fields, remote houses, and vast rural landscapes that served as the backdrop for Grace and Jackson’s isolated home.
During the shoot, fans saw cast members—like Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson on set all over the city, which made people very excited. A lot of the scenes inside and outside that show how troubled the couple’s relationship is were filmed in the suburbs of Calgary.
Instagram posts from people who worked on the set showed clapperboards, rural backgrounds, and behind-the-scenes photos that proved the city was involved.
AIRDRIE, ALBERTA
According to AirdrieCityView.com, the town of Airdrie, located just north of Calgary, hosted part of the production. This smaller town gave us more privacy and was perfect for filming scenes that needed to be shot in a simple, empty setting.
OKOTOKS, ALBERTA
The southern Alberta town of Okotoks was also used as a filming location. With its beautiful views of the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, Okotoks was the perfect place to be. The beautiful but scary backgrounds added visual meaning to the movie’s psychological themes.
Okotoks has been used in movies before because it has both open land and easy access, which made it a good choice for Die My Love’s haunting mood.
SIKOME LAKE, CALGARY

Sikome Lake, an artificial lake in Fish Creek Provincial Park in the southeast corner of Calgary, is another famous place where movies have been shot. The lake, which is about a kilometer above sea level, and the nature around it helped create a mood of loneliness and mental instability in the movie.
The German-language Wikipedia page for the film confirmed that scenes were shot at Sikome Lake, adding an atmospheric outdoor setting to the film’s narrative.
THE VISUAL STYLE: ALBERTA AS A CHARACTER
Director Lynne Ramsay and cinematographer Seamus McGarvey treated the Alberta landscape almost like a character in the film. From the empty roads to the dramatic skies, Alberta’s landscape shows how crazy Grace is inside. Ramsay chose to shoot on 35mm film, which made the grain and texture of the film reflect its raw emotions and psychological intensity.
In an interview, Robert Pattinson also said that he took dance lessons to get ready for a special scene in the movie that was filmed in Alberta without any choreography. This made the scene feel more real.
