Where Was Apple TV+ Series Stick Filmed? Complete Guide To Filming Locations

-

STICK is a sports comedy show on Apple TV+ that was created by Jason Keller and stars Owen Wilson. It’s about dealing with lost potential. The story is about Pryce Cahill, a former pro golfer whose career has gone downhill. Keller conceived Stick as a fictional but grounded journey into self-discovery and reinvention through the lens of golf. There is a lot of humor and heart in this show, which takes place in Indiana but was filmed entirely in British Columbia, Canada. The characters’ personal and professional problems are shown through real-life locations.

WHEN AND WHERE WAS STICK FILMED

The production team went all out to bring authenticity to the series, focusing heavily on real-life golf courses, towns, and clubs to recreate the feel of an Indiana-based story. While the series is set in Indiana, filming took place entirely in British Columbia, Canada, between May 29 and September 13, 2024, under the working title Rambler & the Birdie Machine. Here’s a detailed look at all the major filming locations used in STICK.

1. MAPLE RIDGE, BRITISH COLUMBIA

Situated in northeastern Metro Vancouver, Maple Ridge served as one of the main filming locations for golf course scenes. Known for its rural charm and spacious greenery, Maple Ridge was ideal for capturing the calm, introspective tone of the sport.

Golf courses in the area, like Pine Valley Golf Course, Heather Hills Golf Course and Maple Ridge Golf Course, may have been used for different golfing scenes. The show looks better because of the area’s country feel. Movie sets like Falling for Christmas and Game, Set, Love have been in Maple Ridge before, so it’s used to having film crews there.

2. NEW WESTMINSTER, BRITISH COLUMBIA

New Westminster is a beautiful city on the Fraser River where outdoor and setting shots were shot. The made-up Indiana town felt more real thanks to places like Westminster Pier Park, River Market, and Columbia Street, which is known as the “Bridal Capital of British Columbia.”

Its urban setting works well with the peaceful golf courses, giving the show’s geography depth and variety.

3. LANGLEY – MULTIPLE GOLF COURSE SETTINGS

A lot of the golf scenes in STICK were shot in Langley, which is a city in the eastern part of Metro Vancouver. Several real golf courses were used by the production team to make the sports-themed parts of the show feel more real. The Newlands Golf Course at 21025 48 Avenue, the Langley Golf Centre at 21550 44 Avenue and the Fort Langley Golf Course at 9782 McKinnon Crescent are all well-known spots. These courses provided not only picturesque landscapes but also practical layouts that suited the series’ numerous golf-centric scenes.

Adding to the realism, Jackson Jacob, a professional golfer and former player at the University of the Fraser Valley, appeared in a non-speaking role during filming at Newlands Golf Course. His presence helped make sure that the show’s portrayal of golf stayed true to real life, which made the competitive scenes more believable and added to the show’s atmosphere.

4. PITT MEADOWS, BRITISH COLUMBIA

The Season 1 finale was filmed at Pitt Meadows Golf Club (13615 Harris Road), where the production team staged a full-scale PGA tournament. This shoot brought the high-stakes world of professional golf to life with over 1,000 extras and custom-built grandstands. Pitt Meadows is famous for its natural beauty, which makes it a great place for movies with golf themes.

5. SURREY, BRITISH COLUMBIA

In Surrey, a suburb south of the Fraser River, production took place at the Guildford Golf & Country Club (7929 152 St). This 6,502-yard course is one of British Columbia’s most popular golfing spots. It was here that Justin Bjornson, from the Simon Fraser University golf team, served as a double for Peter Dager, who plays the young golfer Santi.

Bjornson shared his experience of filming with Owen Wilson, noting how the actor made him feel welcome on set—riding around in golf carts and competing in mini challenges between takes.

7. VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA

Vancouver, which is in the middle of “Hollywood North,” was used as the setting for many establishing and urban scenes. Its buildings and street plans can be changed to look like any U.S. city, even Fort Wayne. Vancouver stayed an important place for making sure production values stayed high because it had neighborhoods that were good for movies and professional crews.

8. OTHER LOCATIONS USED

Additional filming was carried out in Richmond, North Vancouver, and various public spaces in Surrey and Langley. These locations helped flesh out the everyday settings needed in the show—from local shops to training fields.

Golf-centric scenes in various country clubs, public parks like Brydon Park, and university facilities helped round out the series’ worldbuilding. Wide-angle shots of Vancouver’s skyline were also incorporated for cityscape transitions.

9. NORTH VANCOUVER – STUDIO FILMING AT NORTH SHORE STUDIOS

The main place where all the indoor scenes were shot was North Shore Studios in North Vancouver. The studio is at 555 Brooksbank Avenue and has eight soundstages and high-end post-production rooms. It was used to film scenes that needed to be shot in controlled spaces, like locker rooms, homes, and clubhouses.

Because North Shore Studios is so flexible, the production was able to make custom sets that visually support the emotional depth of the story. Warm interiors and private spaces helped show what Pryce was thinking and feeling.

Although the series is set in Indiana, many scenes—especially in the first two episodes—clearly suggest the story unfolds around Fort Wayne. The production team chose British Columbia for its scenic golf courses and its well-equipped production infrastructure.

The creative team used British Columbia’s natural beauty and golf heritage to enhance the show’s realism. The decision to film in authentic golf locations rather than relying solely on sets helped preserve the emotional impact of the sport on the characters.
