Almost Family (Família, Pero No Mucho) Filming Locations Revealed

-

Netflix‘s latest comedy, ALMOST FAMILY (Portuguese-Spanish title: Família, Pero No Mucho), features Brazilian and Argentine talent in a humorous cultural clash. The movie, directed by Felipe Joffily and written by Leandro Soares—is about a Brazilian dad who has trouble getting along with his daughter’s Argentine in-laws while the family is on a trip to Bariloche.

It stars actors from both Brazil and Argentina in a funny clash of cultures. The movie has major roles played by Leandro Hassum, Simon Hempe, Gabriel Goity, Júlia Svacinna, and Karina Ramil. It opens on July 18.

WHERE WAS ALMOST FAMILY FILMED?

Almost Family (Família, Pero No Mucho) was filmed in 2024 across stunning locations in Brazil and Argentina. Key scenes were shot in Rio de Janeiro and the Patagonian town of San Carlos de Bariloche—including Bariloche Airport, Catedral Alta Patagonia, and the Club Hotel Catedral.

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL

In Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, several indoor scenes, especially those depicting home life and family dynamics, were shot as a Brazilian–Argentine co-production. Rio, with its Christ the Redeemer, Copacabana and Ipanema beaches, and Sugarloaf Mountain, gave the Brazilian characters urban energy and familiarity.

Rio’s vibrant setting contrasts with Bariloche’s comedic tension. Cast and crew posts on social media in early 2024 confirm that interior scenes and early production work began in Rio, showing real-life homes and the lively culture of Brazil.

SAN CARLOS DE BARILOCHE, ARGENTINA

A large portion of Almost Family was filmed in San Carlos de Bariloche, located in Argentina’s Patagonia region. The Film Commission of Bariloche confirmed that several scenes were shot in this alpine architecture, glacial lake, and mountain backdrop area. Bariloche, surrounded by the Andes and Lake Nahuel Huapi, is a stunning natural setting that fits the movie’s story of a competitive family vacation.

Calle Mitre, with its chocolate shops and Swiss-style buildings, is a memorable scene in the film. Bariloche, known as “Little Switzerland” brought the story’s emotional and cultural tensions to life with its charming yet majestic atmosphere.

BARILOCHE AIRPORT (TENIENTE LUIS CANDELARIA AIRPORT)

Key travel scenes were filmed at Bariloche Airport—officially named Teniente Luis Candelaria Airport. Located just 13 kilometers from downtown Bariloche, this airport is a major gateway to the Patagonia region. The terminal and exterior of the airport can be spotted in the film, marking the characters’ arrival into the Argentine side of the story.

FITZ ROY (MONTE FITZ ROY), PATAGONIA

Although less central, Monte Fitz Roy, situated on the border between Argentina and Chile, also served as a filming backdrop. Its majestic peaks and rugged terrain emphasize the film’s themes of personal growth and cultural discovery.
