Welcome to NetFilming, your go-to source for uncovering the filming locations of your favorite shows! Hulu’s Project Runway Season 21 gave us a new look, new fashion talent, and fierce competition. You’re in the right place if you want to know where this famous reality show was filmed. This season, which started on Freeform on July 31, 2025, and was available to stream on Hulu and Disney+ the next day, was filmed in a variety of interesting places in New Jersey and New York City.
Let’s take a look at the main filming locations, go over the production schedule, and add some fun facts about other projects that were filmed in these areas to give you a complete picture of this stylish season.
Project Runway Season 21: What’s It All About?
Eli Holzman created Project Runway, a popular reality show that tests up-and-coming fashion designers. Contestants have to make beautiful clothing designs in a short amount of time and with a small number of materials. Each week, a panel of experts judges their work, and as they eliminate contestants, the finalists showcase their collections at New York Fashion Week. The prize for the winner will change their life.
Season 21 welcomed back Heidi Klum as host after an eight-year break, joined by judges Nina Garcia (Elle’s editor-in-chief) and celebrity stylist Law Roach. Christian Siriano, the Season 4 champion, mentored the twelve designers, including fan-favorite returnees like Caycee Black (Season 19) and Jesus Estrada (Season 7).
The winner would get a $200,000 cash prize, a mentorship with the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), and a spot in Elle magazine. The season’s filming locations made the show feel fresh and thrilling, and I’m eager to share.
Where Was Project Runway Season 21 Filmed?
Most of the filming for the 21st season of Project Runway took place in New Jersey, with important scenes shot in Jersey City and Lodi. Some scenes were also shot in New York City. These places had a mix of modern studios, historic venues and lively cityscapes that were perfect for the show’s creative energy. Take a closer look at where the magic happened.
Jersey City, New Jersey
Hudson County’s Jersey City was a major filming location for Project Runway Season 21. This busy city, located on the other side of the Hudson River from Manhattan, had many different places that brought the season to life. Parlay Studios at 6 Senate Place was one of the best places. This huge 80,000-square-foot building has soundstages, studios, offices and top-of-the-line equipment, making it the perfect place for TV shows like Project Runway. The studio was flexible enough that the crew could easily make everything from workspaces to runway setups.
Another key spot was the Art Fair 14C space at 150 Bay Street (specifically 157B First Street) in Jersey City’s Arts District. This non-profit organization’s venue served as the casting house, where designers lived and bonded during the competition. The Arts District’s artistic vibe was a perfect match for the show’s artistic spirit.
Lincoln High School at 60 Crescent Avenue was also used to film the designers sketching, sewing, and bringing their ideas to life. Jersey City was a great place to film because it has a lot of different landscapes, a skilled local crew and great tax breaks (the production got a $4.8 million tax credit for spending $14 million in the state).
Fun fact: Jersey City isn’t just a place where Project Runway is filmed. The city has also been used in big films like The Sopranos, which used its gritty urban settings for its famous mob drama, and Joker (2019), where the Arthur Fleck stair scene was filmed in the Bronx, which is often confused with Jersey City’s vibe.
Lodi, New Jersey
The borough of Lodi in Bergen County played a special role in this season. The movie was shot at Mood Fabrics’ Lodi warehouse, which is at 39 Robinson Road. Mood Fabrics is a well-known name in the fashion world for its high-quality fabrics, patterns, and accessories. Mood has been a well-known part of Project Runway’s brand identity for years because designers on the show have used its materials.
This location gave contestants quick access to a wide range of tools and fabrics, which accelerated the design process when time was short. According to the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA), the production spent roughly $14 million in the state, earning a $4.8 million tax credit in return.
Trivia–Other Famous Productions in Lodi:
While Lodi itself isn’t a common filming hotspot compared to Jersey City or NYC, Mood Fabrics’ New York location has appeared in Project Runway seasons for over a decade and is well-known among international fashion audiences.
New York City, New York
Filming in New York City, the heart of American fashion, is a must for every season of Project Runway. The production team picked the United Palace at 4140 Broadway in Washington Heights, Manhattan, for Season 21. With its beautiful interiors and big stage, this historic theatre was the perfect place for runway shows and judging events.
The Big Apple has a long history of fashion and a lot of energy, which naturally gives the show an edge. The city’s streets, boutiques and studios have become an important part of the show’s visual identity over the course of several seasons, not just Project Runway.
Trivia – Other Famous Productions in New York City:
NYC has been featured in Say Yes to the Dress, Queer Eye, What Not to Wear, Project Runway All Stars, and Australia’s Next Top Model. Its mix of high-fashion venues and historic landmarks keeps it a top choice for fashion-related productions.

Project Runway Season 21 Behind The Scenes
The energy behind the camera was just as high as it was on the runway in Season 21. Sara Rea, the show’s producer, talked about how they make the creative fabric of the show. She said, “We have a team of people whose main job is to sit around and come up with ideas,” especially for strange challenges that use everyday things like hardware store items. This shows how careful planning can make Project Runway fun, full of surprises and resourceful.
Christian Siriano, who is a mentor, gave a glimpse into his job by saying, “When they say, ‘Oh, I really want to put Ariana Grande in this,’ I’m like, ‘Well, I just dressed Ariana Grande, and I’m telling you from experience, she will not wear that dress.'” His insight shows how real-world fashion advice affects designers.
Heidi Klum, who was one of the judges, said that coming back was like coming home and that “it feels like I never left.” At the same time, Law Roach brought a lot of energy, and Klum joked that his criticisms brought “a lot of bleeping,” which showed how much passion shaped the season.
Producer Noe York City was praised for “always having our back,” ensuring smooth collaboration.
