In Season 2, Will and Sylvia continue their quirky, complicated friendship while dealing with the ups and downs of midlife. From job issues to relationship drama, they’ll face it all—with plenty of laughs along the way. According to the show’s official synopsis, the two try to support each other through personal and professional chaos, but “sometimes rocks break things.”
Where Was Platonic Season 2 Filmed?
Season 2 of Platonic was filmed entirely in Southern California, with most of the filming centered around Rancho Palos Verdes—a peaceful and scenic city in Los Angeles County. This location adds a refreshing coastal vibe to the show’s tone and storyline.

Rancho Palos Verdes, California
Rancho Palos Verdes is known for its stunning ocean views, dramatic cliffs, and laid-back charm. It’s often used in TV and film because of its quiet streets and natural backdrops. For Platonic, it serves as the perfect setting for more personal and reflective moments in the characters’ lives.
The outdoor scenes filmed here capture the area’s calm beauty, which aligns well with the emotional shifts in Season 2. Whether it’s a quiet talk on a hilltop or a beachside stroll, Rancho Palos Verdes offers the kind of peaceful visuals that enhance the show’s tone.

The Links at Terranea
One standout location featured in the season is The Links at Terranea, a par-3 golf course that overlooks the Pacific Ocean and even offers views of Catalina Island. Designed by Todd Eckenrode, the course is walkable and ranges between 104 and 173 yards per hole — making it enjoyable for players of all levels.
This serene golf course isn’t just a visual treat. In Platonic Season 2, it sets the stage for some key scenes, giving characters a quiet and open space for conversation and reflection. Its calm and wide-open feel matches the more grounded, introspective themes of the season.
Behind The Scenes of Platonic Season 2
Fans eager for a peek behind the camera will be pleased to know that the creative energy and camaraderie on Platonic Season 2 remain vibrant. Director and co-creator Nick Stoller shared that the season presented a fresh storytelling challenge: “We had written the first season as a limited series… so a lot of season 2 in the writers’ room was like, ‘How do we blow up their lives enough that they have a bunch of stuff to resolve?’” He adds that once they unlocked that, it became “really fun to just try to explore their friendship and explore the stuff that people go through in middle age”.
Co-creator Francesca Delbanco pointed out how production adapted after Season 1 wasn’t originally meant to continue: “It probably wouldn’t have ended the way it did if we had known from the jump that it was going to come back,” which explains the more open-ended finale in Season 2.
On set, Rose Byrne reflected on the collaborative and spontaneous process during her chat with Collider’s Steve Weintraub:
“It’s such a different process with comedy, and it’s always evolving and it’s a very fluid way that we work on those shows.”
That fluid, improvisational approach helped create authentic, funny moments—and this season they doubled down on it. Seth Rogen, who also serves as an executive producer, leaned into this atmosphere. In a People feature, he noted that Season 2 kicks off with a mishap on a golf course, setting up a tone that “makes sense. It’s just weirder and more surprising in a way.”
