Dora And The Search For Sol Dorado Filming Locations

-

Dora and the Explorer fans can look forward to a new adventure in the live-action movie DORA AND THE SEARCH FOR SOL DORADO, which is also known in German as Dora auf der Suche nach Sol Dorado. The movie, which was directed by Alberto Belli and written by JT Billings—takes ideas from the animated Nickelodeon show that Chris Gifford, Valerie Walsh Valdes—and Eric Weiner made.

Set to premiere on July 2, 2025, both on Nickelodeon and Paramount+, the film centers around Dora, her cousin Diego, and a group of new friends who journey into the Amazon rainforest. Their mission is to find the hidden treasure of Sol Dorado before it falls into the wrong hands. The film features a strong ensemble cast, including Samantha Lorraine as Dora, Jacob Rodriguez, Daniella Pineda, and Gabriel Iglesias.

WHERE WAS “DORA AND THE SEARCH FOR SOL DORADO” FILMED?

The film’s production took the adventurous storyline to real-life wild and scenic backdrops. The filmmakers selected Colombia as the main filming location, a country known for its lush landscapes, exotic rainforests, and cinematic beauty.

In an interview with Hello! magazine, Ăšrsula CorberĂł reflected on the experience, saying, “It was special. I’d been going for years because of personal ties, but this was the first time I was there for work, with my own circle of friends. It helped deepen my relationship with the city.” This marks her first professional project shot in Buenos Aires.

Colombia

The main filming for the movie started on August 9, 2024, in Colombia. Federico Cantini was in charge of the photography. The filming took place in a number of natural settings that convincingly portrayed the dense Amazon jungle.

Filming went on until September 2024—and locations in both the deep jungle and small towns in the countryside were used to create the world of Sol Dorado.

Rio Claro, Antioquia

Rio Claro, in the department of Antioquia, was one of the most important places for filming. People know this natural reserve for its thick tropical jungle and river that is as clear as glass. Rio Claro is used to represent a lot of the Amazon rainforest in the movie. The thick vegetation, rocky outcrops, and narrow riverways created a real and film-like Amazonian setting.

Rio Claro has been used in a number of documentaries and travel shows but this is the first major feature film to use the area’s unique setting. It was mostly here that the scenes in the jungle where Dora and her friends walk through dense vegetation, cross rivers, and deal with natural problems were filmed.

Cachipay, Cundinamarca

Cachipay, which is in the Cundinamarca region, is another confirmed filming location. Cachipay is in the central highlands of Colombia. It has a different kind of scenery, with lush countryside, hilly landscapes, and small villages. This area was probably used as the background for scenes where the team went into the rainforest or talked to people who lived there.

Cachipay is accessible from Bogotá, which made it a convenient location for production teams to operate. Though not widely known as a filming hub, its rustic charm and natural surroundings made it a useful complement to the more intense jungle scenes shot in Rio Claro.

Bogotá

Bogotá, the capital city also had a part in the movie. Even though no specific scenes have been confirmed to have happened in the city, production reports say that more filming and help with production took place there. It’s likely that Bogotá was the main hub for operations, providing logistics, equipment and maybe even work on indoor scenes or visual effects.

It’s not the first time that Hollywood has sent movies to Colombia. The Boy and Out of the Dark are two other well-known movies that made good use of Colombia’s unique landscapes. International filmmakers are becoming more and more interested in the country— in part because it has a wide range of scenery and is building up its production infrastructure.
