THE TWIN, also known by its original title The Fetch, is a 2024 horror film that blends deep emotional trauma with eerie elements of Irish folklore. The scary movie, directed by J.C. Doler, is about Nicholas (Logan Donovan), a father who has lost his son and is being tormented by a supernatural being called “the Fetch” in Irish legends. People think that this creepy presence is a sign of death, which fits in with the disturbing and psychological themes of the movie.
The screenplay, co-written by Doler and Paul Petersen, with story contributions from Taylor Bracewell and Chris Alan Evans, was initially developed under the working title Hangman.
WHEN AND WHERE WAS THE TWIN FILMED?
Most of The Twin was shot in Shreveport, Louisiana in 2022, which has been seeing a creative resurgence in the world of independent films. The area’s moody landscapes, historic buildings, and friendly film community made it a great place for the production.
Director J.C. Doler emphasized how meaningful it was to shoot in Louisiana, saying, “After such a long journey, I’m incredibly proud to finally share The Twin with horror audiences everywhere. It’s a story about the things we try to bury that somehow find a way to resurface.”
Some scenes were shot in older residential neighborhoods of Shreveport, where the production made use of aged architecture and weathered interiors to give authenticity to Nicholas’s deteriorating emotional state. The homes used offered a sense of southern gothic decay, helping reinforce the psychological horror rooted in the storyline.
THE TWIN MOVIE STORY
The story of THE TWIN, which was also called THE FETCH, is about Nicholas, a man whose life was shattered when his young son Jacob died suddenly. Nicholas is played by Logan Donovan. A creepy old woman and a young boy appear in the movie’s opening scene, which sets the spooky tone for the story that follows.
Nicholas is happy with his son, Jacob (Tripp Toupal), and his wife Charlie (Aleksa Palladino). But their peace is broken when Charlie is at work and something terrible happens at home.. Jacob dies under Nicholas’s watch, and the guilt overwhelms him. Unable to cope, Nicholas attempts to take his own life.
After spending a month in a psychiatric institution, Nicholas is released, but his marriage has already fallen apart—Charlie has moved out. Nicholas returns to the family home, which once belonged to his late grandmother. Before he can be left unsupervised, he must go through an evaluation period under the care of psychiatrist Dr. Beaumont (Robert Longstreet). Through these sessions, it’s revealed that Nicholas has experienced deep-rooted trauma for most of his life.
Nicholas is determined to show that he is mentally stable, but he starts having scary dreams and visions. He can’t get rid of the image of his dead son, and he also starts seeing a twisted version of himself—a figure that looks like a double that hurts him emotionally and physically. The figure you’re seeing might not be a dream; it might be a darker figure from Irish folklore.
There seems to be a “fetch” bothering Nicholas. A “fetch” is an Irish mythological creature that looks like a real person and is thought to be a sign of death. There is no clear answer to the question of whether this thing is real or just Nicholas’s mental state getting worse. In either case, it shows how deeply guilty, grieving, and hurt he is inside.
The fetch gets stronger as Nicholas’s trauma gets worse. They use horrifying visions of Jacob to push Nicholas’s emotions to the limit. Real life and hallucinations become less clear, and Nicholas has to face both the supernatural and his own mind.
